Would you like straighter teeth but don't want to commit to wearing metal braces for a few years? Invisalign can transform your smile without any metal. Dr. Todd Yoshino, your Federal Way, WA dentist, explains how Invisalign works.
Invisalign uses aligners not wires
When you choose Invisalign, your dentist creates a series of aligner trays custom-made to gradually guide your teeth into alignment. He'll upload X-rays, images and impressions of your mouth into a software program, create a virtual representation of your mouth, and use it to design a treatment program for you. Once the treatment program is complete, you'll receive your comfortable resin aligners, which you'll wear approximately 22 hour per day. Every two weeks, you'll swap your aligners for a new set.
No one has to know that you wear braces
Since the removable Invisalign aligner trays are clear, they're not noticeable when you smile or talk. Although the trays are nearly transparent, you may still want to remove them sometimes. For example, you may need to wear a mouthguard while you play sports, or you might want to attend a dance or other special event brace free. With traditional braces, you would have no choice but to wear your braces, but Invisalign is a much more versatile brace system. Removing the aligners for a few hours is perfectly fine.
Eating is simple with Invisalign
You won't receive a long list of foods to avoid when you receive your first set of aligner trays. You can eat anything you want, including popcorn and hard foods, because you'll remove your aligner trays to eat. You'll never have to worry about struggling to remove tiny bits of stuck food from your braces or your teeth, unlike your friends who wear traditional braces. You'll simply brush your teeth and floss as usual, then rinse your aligner trays before you put them back in your mouth.
